E-Learning at Sheringham High School
Sheringham High School through its Specialist School status in Performing Arts has gained sponsorship from Microsoft to develop its own Learning Portal.
In 2005 the DfES finalised its e-Strategy and set a number of goals for the use of ICT in Education. One of the most significant goals in the e-Strategy is that there should be:
“a personalised learning space, with the potential to support e-portfolios available to every child by 2007-08”
In essence the aim is that every child will have their own personal on-line learning space or platform that will stay with them for life.
The “Learning Platform” is a generic term to describe an ICT system that can delivery and support learning.
Some of the advantages of these Learning platforms are:
- They help schools to achieve their objectives more efficiently and enable approaches to teaching and learning that would not otherwise be feasible – high level of personalised learning for individual students
- Students will gain easy access to a wide range of learning material and communication tools to support interaction between peers and teachers
- Teachers benefit from easier access to learning resources, tracking of students work and collaboration with colleagues
