Exam Results 2009
August saw the publication of the school’s A-level and GCSE results. At A-level, for the second year running, there was a 100% pass rate. 3 out of 4 grades at A-level were the top 3 grades with 76% (up 3% ) of students achieving A to C grades.
The Headteacher, Tim Roderick, told the Eastern Daily Press that he was delighted with the results. “Our increasingly popular sixth form goes from strength-to-strength with another very good set of results that reflects the progress that the school is making. We are delighted with the 100% A-level pass rate and the improvement in the percentage of A-C grades. There have been some outstanding individual performances”.
Given the school’s continued success in public examinations the number of Sixth Form applications has increased and this year we welcome students from Sheringham, Aylsham, Cromer, North Walsham High schools and from Wood Dene school.
At GCSE 61% of students achieved 5 or more A*-C grades at GCSE and 55% achieved 5 or more A*-C grades including English and Mathematics. Radio North Norfolk broadcast interviews with students on GCSE results day.
Regarding the GCSE results Tim Roderick said “This is another pleasing set of results. There have been some outstanding individual student performances with one student, Adam Beasey, achieving 9 A* and 1 A grades.
We are very proud of what the A-level and GCSE students have achieved. Our students are a wonderful group of young people and they and the staff deserve congratulations for all their hard work”.
Sheringham High School & School Form Centre: OFSTED judge school as ‘good’ in all categories
On 21st and 22nd January 2009 the school was inspected by Ofsted and judged ‘good’ in all categories. The inspectors reported that the school’s exam standards have improved and students are making good progress in both the main school and in the ‘good’ sixth form.
Headteacher, Tim Roderick, said 'Everyone connected with the school is delighted by this report which recognises the progress that we have made. The inspectors recognise the good standards that students achieve in public examinations, especially in English and mathematics.
I was particularly pleased to read in the report that students enjoy their time at school, behaviour is good and that ‘students feel safe because staff have a high level of commitment to their welfare’. The report recognises that the school has a good understanding of its own strengths and weaknesses and that ‘the school's self assessment and monitoring processes are good, and in some areas, exemplary’.
This is a report in which students, parents, governors, staff and the wider community can be rightly proud. It's very important that students know how highly we and others think of them and this report will hopefully give all of our students greater confidence to do well whilst in the main school and our sixth form.
We are not a complacent school and we will continue to work hard to improve things further to ensure that our young people get the very best possible education.
I would like to thank the staff of the school who work tirelessly on a day-to-day basis to ensure that our students do well. I would also like to thank the governors, who work so hard to support and improve the school, parents for their continued support and above all I would like to thank the students who left the inspection team with such a positive impression. As the lead inspector wrote in his letter to students “Your school has many strengths and one of them is you”.
All parents and carers have been posted a copy of the inspection report. The full report is available from the Ofsted website at: www.ofsted.gov.uk/
