Welcome to our new Year 7s 2023-24 from Executive Headteacher, Alastair Ogle

Congratulations, you are soon to be a Sheringham High School student. I would like to welcome you to our school and we all look forward to seeing you again soon through our transition events and activities.

I would like to introduce myself to you as the Executive Headteacher of Sheringham High School and Stalham High School. I have recently joined the schools (in September 2022) and I have been made to feel very welcome by staff and students since the first minute I arrived. I am loving it here and I am sure you will too.

To Pupils:

Moving to High School, can feel like a big step and in some ways, it is, but it is also an exciting one, that you should all look forward to. Our facilities are fantastic, our staff and students are kind and helpful and we have some wonderful opportunities available to you. Of course, the number one priority is learning and what happens in the classroom, but alongside this we want you to try new activities, attend extra-curricular clubs and contribute to our school and community. We have high ambitions (and expectations) for each and every one of you.

To Parents and Carers:

In due course we will send to you a transition pack which contains lots of information and lots of forms to complete. It is really important everything is completed and the pack returned to us by the deadline date that will be provided. Mrs Munro-Oakley is our lead member of staff regarding transition and she has planned a transition programme including:

  • Visits to all feeder Primary Schools to see pupils in their current settings and talk to them about High School. Parents are also invited to come to a separate session held within the primary school and details will follow,
  • Two transition days – where Year 6 Pupils will attend Sheringham High School (transport will be organised in advance.
  • A parents and carers (and pupils) information
  • An after-school activities week from 27th to 31st Booklets have been sent to feeder schools for distribution to Year 6 pupils.

Please be assured we have lots of information to share with you in due course but if you have any urgent questions at this stage, please feel free to email Mrs Munro-Oakley via this email, transitions@sheringhamhigh.co.uk.

At this point I do not want to overburden you with information but I would like to make you aware that following consultation and a great deal of discussion with students, staff and Governors there will be some uniform changes from September. Year 7 students in September 2023 will be wearing our new uniform. We are really proud that this is changing for many reasons and I hope you feel this is a positive improvement too. Research tells us that uniform has a positive impact on behaviour and attitudes to school and learning and our School Council are in the final stages of agreeing the design and colour of the school badge and tie. You can see further details below.

Once again may I say how much I am looking forward to welcoming your child to Sheringham High School.

Yours sincerely

Alastair Ogle
Executive Headteacher
