Admissions Policy

Sheringham High School aims to serve the local community.

The school has excellent links with our three traditional feeder primary schools (Sheringham, Holt and Kelling) and we positively welcome enquiries from students at other Primary schools.

We welcome the opportunity to show interested families around the school at a convenient time.

Sheringham is a very popular school and in all year groups we are full.

Unfortunately, we are sometimes in the position where the number of applicants exceeds the number of available places.  If there are more requests for places than places available, the School’s Governing Body will admit children in the following order of priority:
  1. Looked after and previously looked after children: a looked after child is a child who is in the care of a Local Authority or provided with accommodation by that Authority (as defined in Section 22 of the Children Act 1989). Previously looked after children are those who were looked after, but ceased to be so because they were adopted (or became subject to a residence order or special guardianship order).
  2. Children with medical needs for whom advice from a medical practitioner or psychologist has been provided in support of admission to the school.
  3. Catchment: children living within the School’s defined catchment as defined: Baconsthorpe, Beeston Regis, Bodham, Bodham Street, Edgefield, Edgefield Green, Hempsted, High Kelling, Holt, Kelling, Letheringsett, Plumstead, Salthouse, Sheringham, Upper Sheringham, West Beckham, West Runton & Weybourne
  4. Siblings: pupils whose brother or sister attends the school and are expected to continue to do so in the following school year. This also includes half-brothers/sisters and unrelated children living together as part of one household
  5. Partner/feeder primary schools: pupils not resident within the catchment area but attending a primary school within it. Partner primary schools are: Holt Community Primary School, Kelling Church of England Primary School, Sheringham Community Primary School.
  6. Pupils who attend associate partner schools in the Trust; Antingham and Southrepps Primary.
  7. Children of staff members: provided they have been employed for a minimum of two years and/or are recruited to fill a vacant post for which there is a demonstrable skills shortage.

If there are more applications in a category than places available, places will be offered on the basis of those with the closest distance from home to the school.  The distance from the home to the school will be measured on using a walking route to the school.

In the event that you are refused a place at this school you have the right of appeal.  Further details are available from the Clerk to the Governors who will be happy to discuss any concerns you might have about the admissions process.

Admissions Limit

The maximum intake for the Year 7 has been set by the governing body at 134.  Parents seeking a place for a child in school years 8-11 should contact the school directly to check if there are available places.  In the event of a year group being full, parents will be advised of their rights to make an appeal to an independent panel.
